Inspection of HVAC Systems through continuous monitoring and benchmarking The project "Inspection of HVAC systems through continuous monitoring and benchmarking" (iSERV cmb) has been set up to measure how much energy, and when, HVAC systems consume when being used to meet given end use activities within EU buildings. For this purpose energy monitoring data for up to 1600 heating, cooling and ventilation (HVAC) systems in Europe are analysed. iSERV is supported by the European Commission within the Intelligent Energy Europe and is designed to show the ability for automatic HVAC system monitoring to reduce energy use in practice and compare this to findings of the HARMONAC project, that has indicated the costs and savings of regular inspection. iSERV intends to show how allowances should be made for automatic monitoring systems in the new regulatory framework being developed by European Member States for the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD). Moreover the development of benchmarks to aid comparison is an essential part of the project. |

Slash Your Houston Heating Bills! As energy bills rise, it's tempting to look for the single solution that will shave off a large part of your heating bill, but there are numerous ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home. With these simple and inexpensive Houston HVAC maintenance solutions, you can keep those heating bills from rising - even in the cold holiday season! ADJUST THE THERMOSTAT The most obvious way to reduce your fuel use is to turn down the thermostat. Think of it as a valve between your fuel supplier and your wallet. For every degree you turn it down, you will use up to 3 percent less heating energy. A 10-degree setback overnight or while you're at work will cut your heating bill by up to 10 percent. Keep in mind that it doesn't take long to heat your home to a comfortable level - only about 15 minutes. Never adjust the thermostat above the desired temperature; doing so will not heat your home any faster. REPAIR DRAFTY WINDOWS Older windows are often big energy wasters. When you're ready to invest in new windows, many energy-efficient options are available before you buy, you should know there are several inexpensive repairs that can improve the performance of your current windows. EFFICIENT HEATING SYSTEMS A typical heating system will last about 20 years, although some have been around much longer. If yours is 15 years old or more, then it is a good candidate for replacement: Efficiency can range from about 60 percent in older equipment to 95 ... |

Troubleshooting your Central Heating System Years ago, most Houston homes relied on inefficient baseboards for heat - a spotty, inefficient method at best that left homes feeling drafty and cold. Today, Central Heating Systems wind a web of ventilation ducts throughout the house to distribute heat evenly, and allow homeowners to control heat from a wall mounted digital thermostat. A home's Central Heating System, just like a car, needs regular maintenance and repairs to keep performing at top efficiency. Here are a couple of quick tips, and if you come across a need for any type of repairs give us a call! Meet Your Central Heating System 1. If you have a heat pump or furnace, you likely have a ducted air system, which is the most common type of central heating. In a forced air duct system, a blower pushes warm air through the system and out the vents to warm rooms in your house. A gravity furnace doesn't use blowers; instead, convection currents move air throughout your home. Change Furnace Filters Annually 2. Or more frequently if you have pets or use air conditioning in the summertime. If you notice that the central heating system doesn't work as well as it once did, it could be because it's having trouble pushing warm air through a dirty filter. Clear Obstructions Away from Vents for Air flow 3. Inside the house, that means furniture. Outside, look for leaves and debris blocking the outside vent. Remember to keep cold-air return vents, which are not connected to the ... |

The technology is currently available to utilize solar power for your Austin residential air conditioning and heating systems. PUT THE SUN'S POWER TO WORK IN YOUR AUSTIN RESIDENCE How Solar Works: Solar energy is an infinitely renewable resource that uses the sun's rays to generate electricity for use in your home. By going solar, you can reduce your energy costs and also lower your dependence on fossil fuels, thereby making your own contribution to a cleaner environment. The technology for residential solar-energy systems, including air conditioning and heating, is currently available. Using solar modules, made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, it harvests the sun's energy and converts it into electricity that can be used to power your lights, appliances and other electrical devices in the home. TYPES OF SOLAR SYSTEMS Grid-tied PV systems A grid-tied system is the most common and least expensive of all residential solar systems. It allows you to use your own solar-generated electricity to save energy and reduce costs. At times when the PV system isn't producing electricity, such as at night, electricity is provided by the utility company's grid, or network of power stations. One of the benefits of a grid-tied system is that any excess electricity produced by your solar system can be fed back to the grid through a process known as net-metering. With net-metering, which is available in most areas, when you use electricity from the grid your meter spins forward. The less ... |

How to Calculate SEER Ratings for Your Austin HVAC System: If you are wondering about the energy efficiency of your Austin HVAC system, here are some things you need to know. SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) is a number that provides the energy-efficiency of an HVAC system. Contrary to an instantaneous energy-efficiency rating, a SEER rating provides the predicted energy efficiency of the HVAC system over an entire Austin cooling season. The efficiency varies from day-to-day because the efficiency at any point in time depends on the temperature of the indoor and outdoor air. If you are considering HVAC repair, or if you're upgrading to a unit with a higher SEER value, you can easily calculate your predicted energy savings from making the switch. Step 1 Review your utility bills to see your current month by month electrical consumption. Air conditioners consume electricity, not gas, so the system will be responsible for part of your electrical bill in the summer months. You want to determine exactly how much. To do this, look at your winter electric bills to see what your typical electrical consumption is when not running the air conditioner. It is best to take the average of a few months, such as November through February. Then take that mean consumption and subtract it from your electrical bills in the summer months. This will give you a rough estimate of how much energy your air conditioner uses each month. Step 2 Compare the prospective SEER rating to you ... |
